Historically chinoiserie, derived from the French word "chinois" or Chinese, was the European interpretation of Asian art and design both in motifs and techniques. This airy style paired beautifully with the highly embellished Rococo interiors of the 18th century, and is today still often employed in modern spaces as a reference to the refined opulence of the past. Fascinated by the juxtaposition of whimsy with extravagance, we created a landscape of flora and fauna and contrasted this lightness with luxurious fine bone china and 24k gold.
